We had already postponed this ride form the previous Sunday, and the forecast didn’t sound too promising again. However, on the morning the sun was shining and the ground dry, so fingers crossed it would stay that way; we set off for the Scorton picnic site car park which was our venue for this ride. Nine riders set off in two groups, meeting up with a tenth rider, Katie on the way. (Sarah, Elaine, Katie, Lynda, Sean, Julie, Janet, Lynne).
This route is lovely but does mean you have to cross the motorway at least four times depending on which way you return to the venue, so for some horses this was the first test. They were all impeccably behaved and walked along very steadily and calmly through the village of Scorton and then up Snow Hill where we met Katie on her young 5 year old………..a first for them, as they hadn’t ever ridden out in a group before!
At the top of the hill we split into two groups and rode through the valley, passing part way along the route. Liz opened some of the gates, while Di and I led the riders. Sean (aged 9) helped by closing the gates, thank you!!! All the riders seemed to enjoy the leisurely pace and the laid back atmosphere, with our only problem being the flies, who were a real nuisance despite the liberal amount of fly spray used at the venue. At times trotting on was the only way to get rid of them.

We gained two new members from the day, and all the riders were friendly and appeared to have enjoyed them-selves. It is nice at the end of the ride to see to your trusty steeds and then sit down and chat with like minded people who have horses because they love them and want to see more of the countryside by taking part in these rides.
Welcome to Janet Taylor from Lytham and Katie Towers from Scorton, whose young horse was a credit to her.
Remember, this car park is open all year round and there are lots of alternative routes available. If you would like to ride mid week, send me your details and I’m sure Liz would be willing to meet up with you.
Thank you to all the riders for their support and complimentary comments at the end of the ride.
