19th - 21st May 2008 Charity ride - Ray of Hope Appeal

Ray of HopeJanis Ashworth and 5 friends started their 40 mile ride and walk along the Pennine Bridleway on 19th May to raise money for the Ray of Hope Appeal which aims to raise £650,000 to provide Image Guided Radiotherapy facilities (IGRT) at the Rosemere Cancer Centre at Royal Preston Hospital. IGRT allows radiotherapy staff to take CT quality scans during each treatment session, which means fewer side effects caused by damage to healthy tissue; greater accuracy enabling higher doses of radiation; and a reduction in the trauma and stress caused by treatment being halted temporarily whilst repeat scans are taken. It will benefit more than 2000 patients each year across Lancashire and South Cumbria, in particular those being treated for prostate, lung and bladder cancer. Members of her group have personal or family connections with the Rosemere Cancer Centre and this is their way of giving something in return for the treatment, care and support they have received.
The team completed the ride and have raised in the region of £2500 to date.   Donations can still be made through the website until October 2008 http://www.justgiving.com/penninebridleway

The ride was organised through Pennine Bridleway Trails www.penninebridlewaytrails.co.uk/
